The Mimico Mountaineers are a Canadian Junior A lacrosse team based in Toronto, Ontario, competing in the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League (OJLL).
Founded with a deep history in South Etobicoke, the Mimico Mountaineers have been an integral part of the Ontario Lacrosse community since 1890.
Rooted in a historic railway town that has evolved into a vibrant neighbourhood, the Mountaineers have been synonymous with Mimico since the town's early beginnings.
The Junior A Mountaineers recorded Minto Cup victories, the prestigious National Junior A Lacrosse Championship of Canada, with victories in 1938 and 1951. They also clinched Eastern Canadian championships in 1941 and 1946.
Following a 37-year hiatus, the Mimico Mountaineers made a celebrated comeback to the Junior A level in 2015, spurred by the success of their minor affiliate of the same name. In just their second year after returning, the revitalized franchise secured a spot in the 2017 Minto Cup, solidifying their status as a formidable contender in the OJLL.
The OJLL
The Ontario Junior Lacrosse League® (The OJLL) is the premiere junior men’s box lacrosse league in Ontario. Sanctioned by the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) and Lacrosse Canada (LC), the Ontario Champion is annually awarded the Iroquois Trophy and moves on to compete against teams from Alberta and British Columbia for the Minto Cup, emblematic of the National Junior A Box Lacrosse Championship of Canada. Ontario has captured the Minto Cup fifty-seven times since 1937.
The OJLL is the number one source for talent for the National Lacrosse League (NLL), the largest and most successful professional lacrosse property in the world. Since the first NLL draft in 1996, nineteen OJLL alumni have been selected first overall.
The league is composed of eleven franchises across Ontario: Brampton Excelsiors, Burlington Blaze, Kitchener-Waterloo, Mimico Mountaineers, Oakville Buzz, Orangeville Northmen, Peterborough Lakers, St. Catharines Athletics, Six Nations Arrows, Toronto Beaches and Whitby Warriors.
The OJLL has featured many other Ontario lacrosse communities throughout its storied history. Officially incorporated in 1933, the league has operated under the Ontario Lacrosse Association since the 1800s.
