LAKESHORE LACROSSE HISTORY

1932

Mimico Lacrosse Club started it all in 1932 with a Mann Cup win. The National Senior Champions featured players who contributed mightily to Lacrosse as coaches, managers, and referees after their playing days ended.

During World War II, Mimico combined with the Brampton Excelsiors to produce the 1942 Mann Cup Champions.

1947

The War ended and the Mimico Mountaineers returned to prominence with the Eastern Canadian Senior Championship in 1947.

1951

Junior Lacrosse began its climb to ascendancy in the Lakeshore with Mimico’s Minto Cup Win in 1951. This was the first National Junior Championship for the area.

1955

The Long Branch Monarchs were founded in 1952 and went on to become a national force in 1953 and 1954. This team won the Minto Cup and became National Champions in 1955.

1970

Mimico and Alderwood amalgamated in 1969 and went on to win the Minto Cup in 1970. Many Lacrosse observers believe that the Lakeshore Maple Leafs were the finest junior team ever assembled.
